Stamp: Teen Pregnancy... by ShadowStarEXE Stamp: Teen Pregnancy... by ShadowStarEXE
I'm not talking about accidental pregnancies either because the condom broke or forgetting to take the pill. At least you're still being responsible. (Although it still is a problem, but you could not help it.)

I'm talking about teens who are DELIBERATELY trying to get pregnant.

I'm sure you've seen this on the Maury Povich show. Teen girls aged thirteen to sixteen sleeping with hundreds of guys because they're desperate to get pregnant for several reasons. Because they think it's cool, funny, awesome or because they want a baby so they'll have something that loves them unconditionally. They are not ready to be mothers and refuse to acknowledge it.

Recent MSN news has announced a school in Memphis, Tennessee has an alarming number of teen girls that are pregnant or have given birth. As many as NINETY girls (one in five enrolled at the school) are either teen moms or have a baby bump.

This is more than a statistic, people. This is a sound for an alarm. These girls and their boyfriends are clearly not practicing safe sex and seem to be uneducated in the consequences of their actions. Is it their fault? Absolutely! But can parents and teachers make a difference? Of course! Teenagers have to understand that having a baby is not a fad or a cute thing. It's a major responsibility and they are not capable of handling it at a young age.

Education starts at home. Parents, TALK TO YOUR KIDS. Teens, LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS. And play safe.

Template is, once again, from :icondoitforthelulz:.

Edit (February 15, 2011): The problem's just gotten worse.

This week's In Touch magazine (I don't read it but my mom and sister do and I happened to notice it) has a cover story that alarmed me.

Five stars from the show Teen Mom are destroying themselves with the fame they got through the MTV show. The money they were given has gone to drugs, breast implants, partying, clothes, cars but none for the children.

Jenelle Evans is the spending girl. She's been blowing all her money on herself and not putting anything aside for her son, Jace. She bought clothes, a car and has been partying. According to the story, she also believes she'll get rewarded from her bad behavior and she's even been arrested for a B&E with her boyfriend.

Farrah Abraham is the girl who got implants. She once had the dream of supporting her daughter by opening her own restaurant but fame changed that dream into now wanting her own spin off show and to become a sex symbol.

Amber Portwood is the girl who got addicted to pills. Worst of all, she's hoping to support herself by becoming a porn star. She's been in jail, almost ODed on pills in front of her daughter and made an amateur adult film to practice baring it all for porn companies.

Chelsea Houska is another party girl who has a very bad relationship with her boyfriend and the father of her baby. They will often fight loudly in front of their daughter and both will go out and leave the baby with friends while they party hard and forget about their responsibilities.

Maci Bookout was once known as the good girl on Teen Mom but fame tempted her as well. She wound up getting her own boob job and a make over in order to get noticed by the press and others. She's not giving care to her son either.

And MTV wants us to believe these girls had it hard?

I did watch an episode of 16 and Pregnant today and I thought it was very sad. But at the same time, I can't help but wonder what goes on behind the scenes when the cameras are snapped off.

I swear I know its hard for a baby to be separated from his/her usual home because of the emotional attachment but sometimes I think judges  HAVE  to take those children away from their parents

I'm sorry if people find this offensive but I'm 16 and my conscience has been damaged to a point that I don't see this a big deal anymore. Especially because my mum had me as a teen but she had me as a very old teen, 18-19 years old.  Her older sister has her first child at 17 and her younger sister has her first child at 16 so quit frankly, I do see the problem but I don't see the harm.

I don't know if anyone else commented this before, but shows like Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant really put lipstick on a pig there, making teen pregnancy look like this little drama-filled pity parade full of attention just for anyone who is under the age of 20 and has a uterus. Which is to say, I agree with you. It also seems like girls have this idea that a baby will be this cute little cuddly plaything they can dress up and play with and just don't recognize the responsibility of trying to raise a kid when you're a kid yourself. Not to say that all teen moms think about that, I know some girls want to make their child have a great childhood and grow up feeling loved, but at my school--and I live in a shit hole country town, so maybe that's why?--it seems like girls have this idea that nothing bad will happen if they keep the fetus and it will be this cute little toy that their parents can just take care of. Like I said before, I'm sure there are teen moms out there who actually care for their child, but it seems like quite a few just don't see that they need to take care of it, that they will be spending most of their young life taking care of a kid that they thought would be some cute doll they could dress and play with like they're in first grade, playing house with one of those creepy baby dolls.
I hope I didn't offend anyone, I just wanted to offer my view on teen pregnancy.

Honestly I'm totally against teen pregnancy, being a teenager myself (17) and seeing girls younger then me pregnant. I just want to slap them. My Sister works for the state's (NY) Breast Feeding Clinic, she talks to Mothers about breastfeeding and helps them with everything after they have their Babies. Well she's seen about 6 of my old friends. All of them my age and younger. I mean my cousin is 16 and she's been having sex since she was 14. It's sickening.
I'm going to wait until I'm 30 before I think about a child. I don't want to be another teen mother. Because honestly, Babies shouldn't have babies. Not saying I hate everyone that is a teen mother. But it's just not right.

Just feel the need to add my two cents, My school did a pretty damn good job educating us on pregnancy and it's consequences, but education can only go so far. You have to realize high school age girls are all under the impression that "it''ll never happen to me". I was under the same impresssion, however I also grew up and took damn good care of my son. I'm twenty years old and my son will be 2 in November. This image put forth my the media that all young moms are bad moms is bullshit. I went to school with a girl who had her son when she was a SOPHOMORE, and she graduated with an IB diploma and has a job which she works to support her son, as well as the fact that the father is still in the picture. One of my dear friends who is JUST 18 has a little girl and is a phenomenal mother, another good friend of mine is about to have a little boy and her fiance just joined the Navy to make certain he could support her and the baby. So this, I think is bullshit. No i don't think it's smart to have unprotected sex, and I don't wish motherhood on any 16 year old girl or boy, it's hard, it's a lot of work. But don't you DARE say I "ruined" my life, my son is my guardian angel, a gift straight from heaven.

I never said that. I never once said that all teen moms ruined their lives by being a teen mom.

I do acknowledge that there are some responsible teen parents out there. I once knew a girl in school who used to be flat out against the idea of having children when we were twelve. I moved away the next year and I happened to meet up with her again when I visited home while in high school. She was pregnant and happy about it with the baby's father still in the picture. We kept in touch and she married her baby's father and had another with him.

When it happens to the right person, I know they can step up and be the parent that their baby needs.

But not everyone is like you.

It's a sad fact that people need to face. Not every teen has the capacity to be responsible and to care this much for a child. The hard work scares them or they find out having a baby is more than just someone that loves them unconditionally. This stamp is aimed at them.

This stamp does not say anything about how teen parents have ruined their lives. Please don't jump the gun here.

I want to say something that's been on my mind
*I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT 100%*****
Teens don't understand they're limiting their options when they get pregnant. No parties, no school, no time to "chill" with friends because all of this focus will go on THE CHILD. THE CHILD WILL HAVE TO BE THEIR #1 PRIORITY
they will have to waste their money, have to pay trust funds, won't be able to sleep for YEARS and get awoken by this child in the middle of the night for useless things, and will have to be prepared to play with the child at five in the morning and be prepared to deal with many sleepless nights. And if all this devotion DOESN'T go to the child then they have ruined another life and another human being has to suffer through neglect and depression. With a child- it's either all your time, all your money, and EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT, or this child will grow up to be a murderer or sociopath, or grow up with depression and start cutting like an idiot (no offense to people who  cut. It's not your fault). Do you really want to be that selfish teen moms? Huh? All of you stupid teen moms don't know what the heck you're doing. Teens who want to get pregnant, rear that whole thing over again. It's either sleepless nights, weight gain, money waste, or cutting, chances of murder, depression, all because of your selfishness. THINK! wait til' he's the one and you're married to him. It makes it all so much better. Children are wonderful things, BUT NOT WHEN YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CONSEQUENCES! Please, teens who want to get pregnant, I'm posting this because I don't want you to ruin your life :(

And if the teachers WEREN'T AFRAID TO EDUCATE THEM AS WELL AS THE PARENTS it would help a lot. It's doing the opposite of what they think. It's not turning them on, it's turning them off. Sure, you'll get shits and giggles in the class, but at least some of them know, and those who don't pay attention, it's their fault and they can't blame it on anyone else.
I knew a sex ed teacher. He told boys if you touched a girl's thigh she would get pregnant. :stare:
And they believed him. I went home, asked my mom, she said, "What the FUCK?!" and called the school. Not about sex ed. The fact that he needed to be teaching us the right things.

Yay! Go mom!

I believe people who don't support this is ignorant to the reality of the situation

You have to be 18 in order for you to be a adult legally.

A 13 year should not be getting knocked up by a 25 year old.

That's just creepy.

That's setting everyone up for problems :l

I've known several pregnant teens and none of them were like those whores on 16 and Pregnant. They didn't go partying all the time or wanting to waste their money on plastic surgery or beer or other crap. They realized that it was unwise to get pregnant and tried to make up for it. (And ever notice how there's only white teen moms on that show? Where are the black ones...oh wait, they're on Maury.)

I tend to view teen girls who got pregnant by grown men with much greater disdain than ones who got pregnant by guys their own age.

Seriously, a generation ago, teenage pregnancy was viewed a lot more negatively, and the lives of teen parents were a lot harder. To make things worse, the teenage pregnancy rate was higher back then. It was actually highest in the Fifties (and BTW, even in the Fifties the pregnant girls were often unmarried). I can see it all:

Pregnant Teen, 40 Years Ago: "My life is over."
Pregnant Teen, Today: "MTV HERE I COME!"

Teen pregnancy is never a good way "to get back" at anybody.

Running away is never a good way "to get back" at anybody.

Being "pro-mia/ana" is never a good way "to get back" at anybody.

In the end, the only one being fooled is the teen girl whose plan "to get back" at someone comes back to burden her.

I agree. I am 13, and I hear on the news that girls my age are giving birth and stuff. THAT.IS.DISGUSTING. You are young!Enjoy it! Don't waste the time you could be spending on studying to get in a good college in the future or having fun to a child that you can have one day. Personally, I haven't been in a relationship or anything like that MY ENTIRE LIFE,and other girls my age are having sex?

Well, plenty of American high schools are prone to having nurseries for student offspring, but at least they're attempts at taking proactive approaches to keeping teen parents in school while their children are being looked after. However, when the teen parents are at home, multitasking between homework assignments and childcare can be quite difficult for them as another reason why I decided to run and hide from the horny guys I was surrounded by as a teenager, as I was lucky enough to learn about the dangers of teen pregnancy during a romantic relationships unit in my 8th grade home economics class.

Ironically below this stamp I saw a post about a teenager being a surrogate mother .  What is your view on that where she has no intention of keeping the baby, she's just helping a childless couple?
Reply
:iconshadowstarexe:
ShadowStarEXE Featured By Owner Aug 4, 2013
A teenager's got more responsibility during their teen years that have to be given more attention to (school, etc.). Even if she isn't keeping the baby, she has to still watch herself during pregnancy to ensure she delivers safely. I wouldn't say it's a good idea when there are older, willing fertile women out there who can handle the pregnancy time. I can't see a teenager being so willing to watch their diet, exercise regularly, go for doctor's appointments, take naps, lose sleep at night and handle the body aches that come with pregnancy on top of everything else. It can lead to stress, which can lead to complications with the birth. Most teens I know couldn't handle that stress.

Of course, that could be a rather biased opinion. The teenagers I knew and grew up with when I was in high school couldn't handle major responsibilities (hell, they could barely get through class) and the ones who were better at handling it wouldn't want to be pregnant with everything else they handle.

I agree with you. I mean those five girls that got pregnant shouldn't be parents if they didn't want to take responsibility for their own children.

All they wanted to do was party, do drugs and abuse their own children by leaving them behind, and i learn that some children, who grew up to be parents would do the same thing to their children once they get older.

But those girls should have been more mature for their age and take responsibility for their children, but they turned the other cheek around and not giving a crap about their child.

=_= Why are people so stupid? In Australia, we don't that many cases of this happening but still, it's disturbing. >_> My friend once tricked me that she was pregnant at the age of 14 but I already knew she was lying. However, people keep spreading rumors about other people saying that they're pregnant. >_> What's so cool about being like that at 13 - 17 years old anyway? You have a life to live people, use it while you can. I'm 16 yet I don't have a boyfriend. *sees stares* What? People don't like me and I don't want one now. So why waste your time doing this when there are better things to do?

Sorry for coming off so harsh, but it was open to rant...
